Then again, there’s nothing quite so challenging as sailing; being out on the water, trimming the mainsail, working the ropes with your shipmates; it’s a thrill a minute voyage of self discovery. Sailing: it’s the best of both worlds; it’s the perfect gift for him or her; it’s whatever you want it to be.
Not convinced that sailing is for you? Then why not try a Sailing Taster Evening – a beautiful Summer evening; a ship shape Swedish yacht and two or three friends. What more could you possibly want? Get behind the wheel – or not, it’s entirely up to you. That’s the beauty of sailing; you can do as much or as little as you like. Sailing should be enjoyed by everyone. It doesn’t matter if you’re an old hand or a novice; there’s only one rule, and that’s that you enjoy sailing, any way you want.

In time you might even find that you’re ready for bigger challenges. RYA accredited qualification courses are available for those who want to take the next step in proving their sailing proficiency. You’ll cover everything from navigation to salesmanship, with full regard given to safety at all times. Five day courses give you the best opportunity to hone your rope work, perfect your berthing and develop your skills. In no time at all, you’ll be captaining your very own 76ft racing yacht!
Whatever you decide upon, your sailing activity package will be fully supervised and free of danger. Sailing is completely safe. So much so that non swimmers are quite welcome. You’ll be supervised by an RYA accredited skipper, who’ll brief you on safe sailing and you’ll be equipped with all the safety wear you need. So, whether you take the seas or stick to the calm waters of the Solent, you’ll just be able to make the most of the experience.
Sailing activities and experiences are available seasonally – that’s April through to October, assuming conditions are favourable. Obviously there are only so many facilities equipped to offer this kind of activity, but with locations in Largs in Scotland and Portsmouth in the South of England, it means that everyone gets a fair crack at the whip. Whichever location you decide upon, you’ll experience the most hospitable crews, the finest views and the best day out this side of the Fastnet.
Of course, for the ultimate indulgence, you’ll just have to charter your very own yacht. Would a Sunseeker Predator suffice?! Take charge of your million pound super yacht, as you munch on a canapé and cruise along the Thames; or take a trip to Jersey or Guernsey. It’s your yacht (well for the day at least;) so you decide.
