If you’ve never kayaked before, it doesn’t matter. You’ll receive top quality training on the day. Your qualified instructors will cover basic safety procedures, the double blade paddling technique and equip you with an initial appreciation of the art of kayaking. (Of course you won’t fully begin to appreciate the full joy of solo kayaking until you’re doing it for yourself.) Then you’ll be kitted out in wetsuit, buoyancy aids and helped into your kayak.
Don’t know your kayak from your catamaran? Don’t worry. All you need to know is that a kayak is a lot like a covered canoe; you insert your legs into the hole in the ‘spraydeck’ and sit in a kind of covered cockpit. The kayaks are the same basic shape and design as the traditional models, but super light, super manoeuvrable and very resilient. Your legs will stay warm and dry and, more importantly so will the kayak. Come hell or high waters, you’ll have the driest legs and boat on the water. Even capsizing can’t crimp your fun. With a little luck and, it has to be said, an awful lot of skill, you can exercise an Eskimo roll, right the boat and keep on paddling!
Be warned that the Eskimo roll is an ancient and highly skilled manoeuvre. In other words, we can’t guarantee you’ll perfect it at your first attempt; or second, or … well, you get the idea! But kayaking is about being one with the water, and every failed Eskimo roll is another chance for you to experience the revitalizing waters! Your instructor will be on hand to assist you at all times, so you’ve got absolutely nothing to worry about. They’ll also help you to perfect the ‘hip snap’ which is the main ingredient in your Eskimo roll!
